A New Daily Routine Could Kick Start Your Career

Nearly everyone settles into some sort of routine as they traverse their way through life. The key to finding career success is creating a daily routine that focuses on developing the right habits and sticking to it. Here are some tips for optimizing your routine so that you can kick-start your career.

Get a Head Start

When you examine some of the most successful people like, CEOs, there’s definitely a pattern where they wake up early or at least at a reasonable hour. You’re not going to make much headway if you wake up at noon every day, so it’s important to develop the habit of getting out of bed fairly early in the morning.

Prioritize Important Tasks to Early in the Day

As you move through the day, you’re faced with a flood of choices on where you should place your attention. Consequently, it becomes necessary to prioritize and move through tasks in sequential order of importance. The most important tasks should be completed early in the day – and those of lesser importance can wait until later.

Don’t Multitask

There are many myths surrounding the concept of multitasking – and research has found that humans are typically unable to focus on more than one task at a time. In fact, MIT professor of neuroscience, Earl Miller reports, “You’re not paying attention to one or two things simultaneously, but switching between them very rapidly.”

The bottom line is that multitasking can decrease your effectiveness at completing different tasks. That’s why it’s generally better to concentrate on one thing at a time and give each task maximum effort rather than trying to do multiple tasks at the same time.

Follow Your Plan

Holding yourself accountable is another big part of developing a new daily routine. If you aren’t going to stick to the plan and carry it out, it’s futile to create a plan in the first place. That’s why it’s necessary to have the discipline to carry out daily tasks so your goals have the best chance of coming to fruition. Whether it’s making sure you’re out of bed by 7 a.m. or having an exercise session each day, you should do whatever it takes to follow through.

Don’t Find Excuses

While an occasional excuse may be valid, you never want to get in the habit of chronically making excuses because it’s going to inhibit your progress and make it difficult to gain any real momentum. Just be diligent about staying the course.

With the right game plan and a little discipline, you can create a new daily routine that will help you become the best version of yourself. In turn, this can translate into career improvement and help you reach new heights.
