Why You Can’t Worry When You Don’t Hear from the Company

A job search can test you on many levels. Many candidates become impatient and a little disheartened when they don’t hear back from a hiring manager after what seems like a reasonable period of time. But there are a couple reasons why you shouldn’t worry when you don’t hear from the company you’ve applied with.

They May Be Interviewing Several People

It’s common for companies to interview numerous candidates. Their goal is to find the most qualified candidate with the necessary skill set and best cultural fit. As a result, the interviewing process may take several days or even weeks. Just because you don’t hear back from the company right away doesn’t mean you won’t get the job. It may just take some time. Stay positive and optimistic!

They May Be Waiting to Make a Decision

There are many factors to consider before making a final decision. Some companies will want input from multiple higher-ups before they commit to a single employee. This means that it may take them a while before they contact the candidate they want to hire. All of that takes a lot of coordination to find a common time.

Don’t Let This Stop Your Job Search

So what do you do in the mean time? The important thing is to keep your options open and stay on the offense. There are never any guarantees, so it’s usually best to actively maintain your job search until you ultimately have an offer.

Keep putting in applications, networking with others and getting your resume out there. If you end up finding a different position during this time, you can politely decline the offer from the original company you applied for.

Here are some key things to keep in mind if you don’t get an immediate response.

  1. If you’re a good fit, the company will let you know.
  2. If you’re a good fit, the recruiter/staffing agency will let you know.
  3. If it’s not that job, then the staffing agency will keep you in mind for future positions.
  4. They want to place you!

There’s no denying that the job search process can be arduous and anxiety inducing at times. But it’s important to understand the mindset of recruiters and staffing agencies and not get too upset if you don’t hear back right away. By following the right steps and applying for other positions in the mean time, you can avoid “missing opportunities” and hasten the process.
