Will You Find Your First Job in 2018 on Google for Jobs?

It seems that Google has its hand in everything these days, and the recruitment market is no exception. In May 2017, Google unveiled “Google for Jobs,” which is designed to allow people to use their products to find work. Let’s discuss the basics of how it works and key features that can help your job search.

Getting Started

Using Google for Jobs is simple, and it’s built right into Google search. All you have to do is type in a phrase such as “jobs near me” or mention a specific industry like “forklift operator jobs.” Or if you want to be even more detailed, you can include additional words like “part-time” or “full-time.”

From there, a box will appear at the top of your screen displaying a list of jobs based on your criteria. Click on the blue box called “Jobs” to get more information on what’s available.

Narrowing Your Job Search

Once you’re in the Google for Jobs interface, you can begin to narrow your search. Near the top of the screen you can search by the following:

  • Category
  • Title
  • Location
  • Date posted
  • Type
  • Company type
  • Employer

Or you can break it down by industry. After clicking on a job you’re interested in, Google will give you the rest of the details and provide a link to apply. At that point, you’ll be redirected to a job search site like Snagajob, LinkedIn, etc. Note that Google for Jobs isn’t a job search site in and of itself. It simply streamlines the process.

The Benefits

During the Google I/O Keynote ’17 presentation, Google CEO Sundar Pichai explains this tool uses Google’s artificial intelligence to help you locate jobs you might not be able to find through traditional search. He also points out that having the ability to refine your results helps ensure highly relevant jobs that are perfectly tailored to your qualifications. This way you can move through your job search more quickly and efficiently and you won’t have to deal with “dead-end leads.”

Google for Jobs is quick, easy and extremely user-friendly. Once you get the hang of all of the features, you can navigate your way through its interface and find relevant jobs. Therefore, it’s a tool worth considering to help you land your first job in 2018.
