5 Reasons it Might Be Time to Look for Another Job

Maybe you were quite happy with your job initially, but over time your contentment has dwindled. If you’re unsure about whether you’re satisfied with your current position, ask yourself these five questions to determine if it’s time to start looking for a new job.

1. You Dread Each Workday

The thought of going to work may not exactly be your idea of a good time. But if you find yourself completely dreading each workday, then it’s not the right job for you. It’s especially problematic if you’re unable to enjoy your days off because you know you have to go in the next day.

2. You’re Chronically Bored

Feeling unchallenged or unstimulated is another common issue. Maybe your employer isn’t tapping into your skill set, or maybe the tasks are dull and monotonous. Whatever the reason, you’re unlikely to experience any real fulfillment in your current job if you don’t make a change.

3. You’re Underappreciated

Management coach and author Victor Lipman reports in Forbes that “66 percent of employees say they would likely leave their job if they didn’t feel appreciated.” And this is one of the most common reasons for turnover. If you’re not getting the acknowledgement you deserve, it’s hard to be enthusiastic about your job, and you may want to look elsewhere.

4. You’re Not Growing

Career development is a big priority for many workers — and rightfully so. If you’re not growing career-wise and have no chance of moving up the company ladder, it can be frustrating.

5. It’s Affecting Your Health

If you’re unhappy with your job, it can lead to health issues like stress, anxiety and depression. Business writer Annamarie Houlis explains some ways to tell if your job is taking a toll on your health:

  • You have a weakened immune system
  • You’re suffering from gastrointestinal issues
  • You’re experiencing difficulties concentrating
  • You’re experiencing either weight loss or weight gain

Remember that no job is worth your health. So if this is something you’re dealing with, it’s definitely time to see what other opportunities are out there.

While every job has its ups and downs, it’s important to know when enough is enough. If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, it’s a sign to move on with your career.
