4 Ways to Get to Work If You Don’t Have a Ride

Being able to get to and from work is a critical part of holding down a job and staying in your boss’s good graces. But not everyone has the luxury of owning a vehicle. In fact, a recent study found, “An estimated 8.7 percent of U.S. households were without vehicles in 2016.” So, what do you do when you need to get to work but don’t have a ride? Here are four ideas.

1. Rideshare

Although the rideshare concept is still new, it’s really taken off over the past few years. Apps like Uber and Lyft have become household names and are used by millions of people to get where they need to go. So, this can be a great option if you need a consistent, reliable mode of transportation. Simply access the app, and you can usually get a ride within minutes. The best part is transactions are handled through the app, so you don’t have to worry about exchanging money.

 2. Carpool

While this may not necessarily be viable long-term, it can potentially work for a while or if you only need an occasional ride. See if you have any family members, friends, neighbors or even acquaintances that would be willing to drive you to work. You could always perform a favor or offer them some money in exchange for their help.

3. Public Transportation

Many places offer some type of public transportation these days, and often at a reasonable cost. If you live in a large city, you likely have a few different options. But even if you live in a smaller town, you may at least have access to a bus or shuttle. Just perform a Google search for “public transportation near me” to see what’s available in your area.

 4. Walk

Finally, there’s always walking. While this may not work for everyone, especially if you must travel a long distance to get to work, it can certainly work in some situations. And this can be a great way to burn calories, stay in shape and explore your city.

There are now more transportation options than ever. So, don’t worry if you don’t have a ride. Just consider these four ideas and see what makes the most sense for you.
