New Year, No Stress. Help Your Office Destress This Year.

Stress in the modern workplace has become somewhat of an epidemic. According to Stress.org, 80 percent of employees report feeling stress in the workplace, and 40 percent say their job is extremely stressful. If not kept in check, it can take a toll on your workers’ health, create conflicts and reduce productivity.

Top Sources of Stress

Stress.org found it essentially boils down to three main factors:

  1. Workload
  2. People issues
  3. Employees juggling work with their personal lives

With this in mind, here are some ways you can destress your office this year.

Create Manageable Workloads

Workers having too much on their plates is one of the biggest sources of stress. And this is often the result of employers having unrealistic expectations of what workers can handle. For instance, they may assume an employee can comfortably tackle an extra project, when in reality, it creates a huge burden.

It’s important to be realistic when delegating tasks and create manageable workloads. If you find that having enough manpower is a consistent issue, you may want to consider partnering with a staffing agency to fill in the gaps.

Encourage Employees to Take Breaks

While there’s no way to completely eliminate friction between people in your office, you should be able to minimize it by ensuring everyone takes periodic breaks. This is something many people skip because they’re overwhelmed with tasks and need every possible minute to keep up.

This ultimately results in exhaustion and fatigue and sets the stage for interpersonal conflicts. As long as your employees have a chance to relax and unwind throughout the day, this should keep them more calm and less stressed.

Try to Offer Flexibility

Having some level of flexibility is a big deal for many modern workers, especially younger generations. This is one of the best ways to help people juggle work with their personal lives and stay on track with each. Fortunately, technology has created a lot of options that weren’t available just a few years ago.

Stress is a serious issue that plagues many of today’s businesses. If it’s something that’s impacting your office, you’ll want to address it right away. Focusing on the three points mentioned here should help you destress your workplace and prevent many of the negative symptoms that come along with it.
