Should Your Job Search Be Mobile?

How many minutes are you on your phone a day? Hours? With our lives now being on mobile, it’s only natural that your job search is too. In fact, 89 percent of job seekers say their mobile device is an important tool for job searching, and 45 percent use it to search for jobs at least once a day. Here are some tips to find a job with your mobile device.

Save Your Resume to Your Device

It’s important to have your resume ready whenever a promising position becomes available. You’ll want to have your resume saved to your device for fast access. Ideally, you’ll have two versions — one saved on an online PDF (e.g. Google Docs) and one saved on an offline document (e.g. Microsoft Word). That way, you can send your resume in whatever format recruiters want.

Bookmark and Check for Open Positions

Timing is everything with a job search. New jobs are constantly being displayed online, and you definitely want to stay in the loop and know what’s going on. One of the best strategies is to bookmark top resources and make it a habit to check them at least once a day. For instance, you might bookmark popular job boards or a recruiter’s site to see what’s happening.

Set Up Notifications

The quicker you respond to opportunities, the better your chances of finding a position. You can stay up-to-date on top opportunities by setting up notifications on any job sites you’re using. This will let you know about relevant openings as soon as they become available. And since you’ll likely have your mobile device on you at all times, you can respond promptly.

Create a Custom Email Signature

You want to make it as easy as possible for recruiters to get in touch with you and learn about your credentials. One way to do that is to create a custom email signature on your phone. This could include information like your:

  • phone number;
  • email address;
  • mailing address;
  • LinkedIn and other social media profiles; and
  • Website.

If they’re interested, an employer can find all the information they need and reach out to you through a variety of mediums.

With mobile devices being ingrained in our daily lives, it only makes sense they should be used for your job search. Following these tips can help you make the most of your mobile search and hopefully help you find a rewarding job.
