How to write staffing job order

“I need five warehouse associates on Monday.”

That’s how a lot of staffing requests start. And it’s a fine start. But if that’s all Axiom knows, you might get five people who show up, and two who don’t last the week.

A strong staffing job order gives Axiom what it needs to match people to the real job. Here’s what to include.

Describe the actual work

“Warehouse associate” can mean a lot of things. Picking orders with a scanner. Loading trailers by hand. Running a reach truck. Checking quality on outbound shipments.

Be specific:

  • What will they do most of the shift?
  • What equipment will they use?
  • How much lifting is involved, and how heavy?
  • Will they stand, walk or sit most of the day?
  • Is it hot, cold or climate controlled?

The more Axiom knows, the better it can screen for people who will actually be comfortable doing the work.

Share the pace and expectations

If your pickers are expected to hit a certain rate, say so. If the job is fast-paced with tight deadlines, say that too. Candidates who know what they’re walking into are much more likely to stay.

Be clear about the schedule

Include:

  • Start date
  • Shift times and days
  • Whether overtime is expected
  • How long the assignment is likely to last

Shift and schedule are some of the biggest reasons people turn down or leave jobs. Getting them right upfront saves everyone time.

List must-haves and nice-to-haves

Separate what’s truly required from what would be a bonus. For example:

  • Must-have: Able to lift 50 lbs, available for second shift
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience with RF scanners

When everything is listed as required, the pool of candidates shrinks fast. Axiom can help you figure out what’s realistic in your market.

Mention the requirements that apply

If your site requires a drug screen, background check, specific safety gear or certifications like forklift training, include it in the order. At Axiom, drug screen and background requirements are set by each client, so we need to know yours.

Talk about the pay rate honestly

Pay is often the deciding factor for hourly workers. If your rate is below what similar jobs pay nearby, you’ll feel it in applications and turnover.

A good staffing partner will tell you honestly if your rate is competitive. That conversation can save you weeks of unfilled shifts.

Tell us about your culture

Is your team close-knit? Is there a supervisor who’s tough but fair? Is this a place where temps often get hired on? These details help Axiom find people who fit, and they help candidates get excited about the job.

Better yet, let us see the site

The best job orders often come after a site visit. When Axiom walks your floor, we learn the nuances of each position, the pace and the safety rules firsthand. That makes it much easier to send people who are ready for the job.

Ready to place an order?

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you call. Tell Axiom what you know, and we’ll ask the right questions to fill in the rest. Axiom has been helping employers on the East Coast since 1999 with temporary, temp-to-hire and direct hire staffing.
